Above the Rim returned for its second season Oct. 30 on 1070 the Fan and 107.5 FM, with Conrad Brunner hosting this feature-format show about the Pacers and the NBA. The first segment featured analysis from TNT’s Reggie Miller and Steve Kerr on former IU standout Victor Oladipo’s switch to point guard in Orlando, as well as Larry Bird’s thoughts on the huge bronze statue of his likeness to be placed on permanent display at the Hulman Center on the Indiana State campus.
In the second segment, the focus shifted to the battle for the top spot in the Eastern Conference and for perspective we turned to Miller, who broke down what he believes will ultimately come down to a three-team duel. Reggie also shared his thoughts on Brad Stevens’ transition to the NBA and if he believes the former Butler coach will succeed in Boston.
When Brian Shaw left Frank Vogel’s coaching staff to take over in Denver, it looked like a big hit to the Pacers. The hiring of Nate McMillan, however, brought more than 900 games of NBA head coaching experience as well as multiple gold medals in international competition as a USA Basketball assistant. Bruno sat down with Nate for an in-depth look at his role on the staff as well as his evaluation of the team.
